Japan – Otaru and Hakodate

The new year and new Japan adventures. Cross country skiing and onsens, a sneaky day trip to Otaru to eat amazing food including delicious fresh sashimi at the fish market and eating loads of free sweets samples at all the chocolate and pastry shops.

Another weekend road trip down to Hakodate with more great food and delicious umeshu while exploring around the city. Hakodate reminded me of my first trip to Japan, Megan and I rocking up to Osaka in the freezing cold and checking into a tiny hotel room with no insulation. I’d never been anywhere that bitterly cold!

Night skiing, incredibly fun times.
Seafood in Otaru.
Otaru Canal.
Izumikiyo crew.
The seafood market sashimi spread for lunch.
So strange to have the snow meet the ocean.
Izakaya backstreets in Hakodate.
Bare cherry blossom trees around the Hakodate Fort.
