We headed through Yosemite National Park and out to Sequoia National Park. On the way out we stopped roadside to watch a mumma bear and her two cubs play in a meadow. So glad we finally saw some bears!!
We drove to Sequoia National Park via Kings Canyon. We just did a driving tour down into the canyon, stopping to take photos and see some waterfalls and Sequoia Trees.
In Sequoia National Park we stopped and saw the biggest tree in the world by volume, The Sherman Tree and did the 400 steps up to the top of Moro Rock. Around Moro Rock we also saw another three bears wandering around, another win for bear day!
We spent the night in Visalia having a couple of drinks and dinner. There was a street festival raging in town with lots of local bands that almost tempted us to make a night of it. Death Valley was a cool place to see, but was a long day driving in the heat. It is officially the hottest place on earth with a record 57°C but thankfully was only 39°C while we were there. It’s also the driest place in the US with the lowest average annual rainfall and the lowest elevation at 282 feet below sea level.
After Death Valley we stopped for some banging Greek food and a strawberry milkshake before spending the night in Barstow. Then into LA the following day to be welcomed by Jarrah and Romeo. It was amazing to see them again and Jarrah greeted us with a lunch feast and I wasted no time winning Romeo back to my side. I’ve missed this little family, Mikey, Jarrah and Romeo. We also went to Mikey’s choir performance the night before we left which blew us away. It was deep, dark and moving.
With no real plans for the next step of our journey, it was a frantic few days assessing flights and trip options before Megan has to be in Paris in less than two months. We finally decided on getting to Honduras and continuing into El Salvador and Nicaragua. Honduras here we come!!
