Canada – Snowboarding Roadtrip

The seven day road trip started off with picking up a brand new Chrysler Pacifica, only 1600kms on the clock as our hire car. With all the fancy features that we were still discovering at the tail end of our trip, the minivan was quickly dubbed “The Spaceship.” We left Sunday afternoon with the car packed and everyone excited for the week to come and drove the 2.5hrs over to Revelstoke.

“The Spaceship.”

The first night in Revelstoke it snowed 10cm and so the Monday we spent exploring the mountain was pretty amazing. Fresh powder all over the mountain with fresh lines to be had everywhere we went. Megan took a few tumbles and got nicely stuck in a couple of deep areas and by mid afternoon we all had burning legs from the day riding the deep. The next day in Revelstoke still had some awesome snow and we hiked to the very summit of the mountain to ride down the back bowls which were still filled with pillows of soft snow from the day before. Revie not only provided some awesome boarding, it had some awesome foods options with a pub called The Village Idiot giving us a great dinner and The Nomad giving great burgers and milkshakes for lunch on our last day.

Deep pow in the back bowls.

Tuesday afternoon we packed up the car and left Revie, driving another 2.5hrs into Vernon for some grocery shopping and then up the mountain to Silverstar Resort. This was the start of our experience with slippery, snowy roads in the front wheel drive Spaceship. Trying to park, we got stuck and needed to dig the car out and push. The cold and ice then got the electronic handbrake stuck on so Andrew consulted the Internet while I consulted the owner’s manual with no luck. Luckily with the help of a couple of guys watching the entertainment out their apartment window, we pushed it into a spot to stay for the night rather than in the middle of the road.

Three days of great boarding with 25cm of snow on the final day, snow tubing and an amazing ski in/ski out apartment made for a great experience at Silverstar. Trying to leave the car park was also an adventure with the slippery road. After 5 attempts and a big run up we got out. We were all pretty tired from 5 days of boarding so decided to skip Big White Ski Resort and continue the drive to Vancouver instead. So Friday afternoon we drove 5hrs into Vancouver city.

24hrs in Vancouver…stayed right in the city, ate good things, walked around in the rain and took the Ferry across the harbour. Korean for dinner (yum) and dim sum for lunch (even more yum!).
