Canada – Calgary to Banff

It was an easy flight from Guatemala City to Houston and then from Houston to Calgary, Canada. Hot toasted bagels with cream cheese in the airport at Houston made me miss New York with nothing much else happening for the day of transit.

Saying goodbye to Guatemala.
Hot toasted bagels.

We spent a couple of days in Calgary, getting adult things done like a Canadian tax number and bank accounts for work. The only fun part of that was exploring downtown Calgary. After eating Guatemalan food for so long we decided to treat ourselves and went to the pub the first night for dinner. I quickly downed a couple of pints of cider on tap because I’d been craving some for a few months. The next day we picked up the hire car in the afternoon and drove out to Peters’ Drive-In which is apparently a local must do. The burgers, onion rings and massive milkshakes were delicious. Megan’s vanilla and toasted marshmallow milkshake won over my maple walnut and butterscotch.

Shakes!! Shake shack is still better.
Cute little puppy at our airbnb.

The next morning we packed up our bags and started out for our Jasper and Banff National Parks road trip. First stop was Banff to suss out the town and catch up with some friends. We had a good night at the Irish pub then a few of the local bars. THE FIRST SNOW: On our first night in Banff we were lucky enough to get snow!! We woke up to the cars dusted with light snow like icing sugar. Hopefully this a sign of good things to come!

Approaching the Rockies.
More of the drive.
