Leaving Xela, we headed off to Lake Atitlan for a few days. We stayed in San Marcos and then San Pedro. The first day we got to the lake the weather was horrible but we had absolutely beautiful days following as we explored by boat, tuktuk and on foot.
There were coffee plantations all over the mountains as we drove in and quite a few of the towns around the lake are very touristy so we took a boat over to Santiago Atitlan in search of a coffee and to experience one of the lakeside towns. Afterwards we came back through San Pedro for a delicious falafel lunch and some more wandering around.
The next morning we braved a 4am wakeup to do the Indians Nose, a nearby mountain that gives the best views of the lake. We were not disappointed.
We also spent a couple of nights in Guatemala City in the bustling Zone 1. I don’t know if there was something special happening or if the main pedestrian walkway is like that every weekend but it was going off!!
We arrived in Guatemala on the 12th of July, expecting to only be here for a few weeks, little did we know that 83 days later is when we would be departing the country. 7 days until our visa expired and we would need a visa run to a neighbouring country. Thanks for the adventures Guatemala!
So for the last few weeks I have been busily tailoring resumes to snow jobs and firing off emails to prospective employees all over Banff and the ski slopes. Today I heard back from Lake Louise Ski Resort with a job offer for control room operator in the snowmaking team. Sooo happy as this resort was my #1 pick for places to work this winter and the job sounds pretty sweet.
I’ll get staff accommodation on the mountain so I’ll be right there for a snowboard whenever I want. The roster is also 4 on, 3 off, 3 on, 4 off in 12 hr shifts so it means I have even more days to be out and about. Canada here I come!!
