Guatemala – Still in Quetzaltenango (Xela)

Quick, I better get this updated for my Sunday night readers…

This week has seen us hit 111 days away, kind of a milestone so we’re treating ourselves to a few drinks out in town. The last week has also seen us move into new accommodation, a house owned by the school. The other people there are friendly and it’s in a great spot in the centre of town. It’s even close to the yoga place we’ve been going. Yes I have been doing yoga and it is ridiculously hard. We have also just completed another week of school making it four weeks of Spanish.

We’ve been on a couple of outings, visiting an old volcano that blew it’s top and walking up to the hill overlooking the town. On other news, the nearest active volcano had a really big eruption a few days ago. It’s not close enough to cause us any concern but it definitely provides some good pictures. My highlight of the week was a Friday after school treats of delicious bakery goods and exploring the massive second-hand clothes store.

The walk up Mt. Baúl.
The view of Xela from Mt. Baúl.
Just a pretty picture of Central Park.
Bargain hunting through clothes in the markets. Some definite winners here but available bag space prevents too much splurging.
Santiaguito erupting this week in the distance.
Megan is definitely enjoying her bakery goods on a Friday after school adventure.
My custard filled bakery treat.
That is where we are heading. La Muela, an old extinct volcano.
Everyone having a time out at the top.
La Muela.
Some crispy fried dinner somethings.
